Checking Your License Status
The VS Code status bar shows your current Mouse license state:
| Status Bar | Meaning |
|---|---|
Mouse: Trial (Xd) | Trial is active with X days remaining |
Mouse: Licensed | Valid license, fully activated |
Mouse: EXPIRED | Trial or license has expired |
You can also check your license programmatically by asking your AI assistant:
"Use Mouse's
license_statustool to check the current license."
Activation Issues
Symptom: After attempting to activate, the status bar still shows Mouse: Trial instead of Mouse: Licensed, or you see Mouse: EXPIRED.
Steps to resolve:
- Verify that you are using a valid license key
- Complete the browser-based authentication step when prompted. Activation requires signing in to bind the license to your device
- If activation appeared to succeed but the status bar hasn't updated, reload the VS Code window (
Ctrl+Shift+P→Developer: Reload Window) or restart VS Code entirely - If problems persist, contact support at
support@hic-ai.com
Trial Expired
Symptom: Status bar shows Mouse: EXPIRED after the 14-day trial period.
Resolution: Purchase a license. After purchase, activate your license key by following the steps in License Activation.
Trial periods cannot be restarted or extended.
Heartbeat and Offline Issues
Mouse performs a periodic license heartbeat to validate your device against the active license. This heartbeat:
- Transmits only a device identifier. No personal data, no usage data, no file content
- Requires a brief Internet connection
- Does not affect Mouse's functionality between heartbeat checks
NOTE
Enterprises requiring fully offline operation should contact sales@hic-ai.com to discuss offline licensing options.
